There is (almost) nothing more satisfying than biting into a freshly steamed Bao Bun. I get excited just thinking about those perfectly textured doughy buns. Last week, in an attempt to satisfy my Bao cravings, my best friend Ali and I went to Gastown’s Bao Down for lunch. We ordered four different Bao Buns, and concluded the top two to try are the Bao Chicka Boa Boa (Chicken) and the YVR (Ahi Tuna) Bao Buns. Also required are the Miso Sweet Potato Fries that you can have on the side to share with a friend.
A great place for a quick lunch, this bodega features window stool seating at the front, and additional seating above the kitchen. It’s a walk-up to the counter and order your own food kind of joint and it’s a great spot to get your quick Bao fix. If you are looking for a more fancy Bao spot I would recommend Bao Bei, located on Keefer Street in Chinatown. A popular dinner spot amongst Vancouverites, go here for Chinese fusion small plates and really fancy cocktails (Blake Lively recently ‘grammed the place stating it was ‘the best meal in Canada’).
